Sesame Seed Rolls

Yield: 20 Rolls

Ingredients Needed

4 Cups Flour
1 Tbsp Yeast
2 Tsp Baking Powder
1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
2 Tsp Salt
1 1/2 Cups Warm Water
2 Tbsp Butter
2 Tbsp Shortening
*1/4 Cup Flour for kneading and dusting

¼ Cup Milk

2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds

Melted Butter to Brush

Method

In a medium mixing bowl, place in the dry ingredients and mix to evenly disperse.

In a cup, mix the warm water together with melted butter and shortening.

Begin by adding a little bit of the warm liquid to the flour mixture and begin to knead for 8 minutes until dough comes together. Add a little of the additional dusting flour as you knead if dough is sticky.

Rub a little vegetable oil into a clean bowl and place dough in. The oil prevents the dough from sticking to it.  Cover with a tea towel and let rise for 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, grease a baking tray with some butter and dust lightly with flour.

After rising period, the dough would have inflated to three times its size. Punch it down to remove the excess gas. Remove dough from the bowl and divide it into 20 equal portions.

Cusp hand and roll each piece of dough into a neat ball and place onto the greased and floured tray.

Continue with the other rolls and space them 2 inches away from each other to allow them to expand in size. Allow them to rest again for 20 minutes.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

Just before you place them in the oven, brush the bread rolls with a little milk and sprinkle on some sesame seeds atop. Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes or until baked.

Remove from oven when done and brush each roll with melted butter.

Let cool and serve as is or as an accompaniment to soups.
